I put together this compilation of early to late 90′s (and some 80′s iamemocore)emo in order to educate people on exactly what is and was meant when people refer to music as “Emo”. Emo is not a trendy fashion statement. Emo is a particular sound that from my experience spontaneously emerged in the mid 80′s but not until around 1993 did the “style” begin to capture American hearts and minds. And the sound, needless to say, has aggressively evolved ever-since. The “EMO Sound” is a movement and quasi-sub-culture and we (at least myself and other diehard music enthusiasts) were able to witness its birth from the 80′s emergence to today spawning bands like Chiodos, Fall Out Boy, the Mars Volta (yes see At The Drive-In at 1:52), Paramore, and obviously Taking Back Sunday. If the UK invented Punk…Americans invented Emo. Not exactly a thing to be too proud of…but hey, we invented Gangsta-Rap to take your tecktonic dancing back to Paris biatches! Just kiddin’ love electronic too! Until around 2000 this music was extremely underground and obscure; only die-hard music enthusiasts knew about early emo bands and always packed bars and shows to support and buy T’s and 7″ records (and CDs).
