Guns N? Roses Tickets?could Chinese Democracy Finally be Coming Out?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Guns N’ Roses tickets are now available and can be bought or sold online at Stubhub.com.

Like Bigfoot, every few years Chinese Democracy is rumored to be haunting a recording studio somewhere, and Guns N’ Roses fans earnestly search for hints that Axl Rose is ready to unleash the long-awaited record. It’s gone from hotly anticipated to mythical Holy Grail of hard rock to, finally, music press punchline.

A New York Times article in 2005 claimed the record had been started in 1994 and ran up production costs of around $13 million, possibly more. Now, three years later, all is still quiet.

Well, not entirely quiet. Guns N’ Roses tickets are on sale, fans are seeing them tour, and Rolling Stone claims there’s a possibility (if the band feels like releasing it) that the record could be issued in November. No one’s holding their breath, though.

The rumor is lent credence by the fact that this June, a blogger named Kevin “Skwerl” Cogill released nine tracks—nine very authentic sounding, very polished tracks—on his music blog. Much speculation ensued, with people picking apart the songs and doubting the authenticity of the supposedly leaked files.

Apparently, they’re more real than many fans believed. Cogill was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 27 by FBI agents. The FBI, as anyone who’s read the warning before a home video can tell you, is quite serious when it comes to copyright infringement. So is Guns N’ Roses, undoubtedly, and crossing Axl Rose can’t be a good thing for anyone’s career. Woe is the leaker who let those files out of the studio.

Still, it could be for the best. The band’s popularity flagged considerably in the ‘90s, and though it’s come back with recent touring, a new record could put them on top of the charts again. Considering how long fans have waited to hear anything new from this classic hard rock band, it’s doubtful they’d turn down the opportunity to finally listen to Chinese Democracy.
