ZZ Top – Mexican Blackbird

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

ZZ Top is an American rock trio, formed in late 1969 in Houston, Texas, by Billy Gibbons (lead vocals and lead guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, and keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums). ZZ Top has been together for four decades, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was ranked number 44 on VH1 cable’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.” The band holds the distinction of being among the few rock bands still composed of its original recording members for nearly 40 years and until September 2006, the same manager/producer/image maker, Bill Ham. ZZ Top reached peak commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring many hit songs during that era, but they remain together today and are still touring and releasing albums. ZZ Top was inducted by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the annual induction ceremony on March 15, 2004. Summarizing their music, Cub Koda wrote, “As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America’s finest blues guitarists working in the hard rock idiom … while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support.” Their song lyrics often feature sexual innuendo and tasteful humor. ________________________________________ If you’re down in Acuna and you ain’t up to being alone Don’t spend all your money on just any honey that’s grown. Go find the Mexican blackbird and send all your troubles back home. They all call her her “puta” ’cause no one really knows her

Shores Of Orion taken from GIAA’s self-titled album, out Nov. 7 via Revive Records God Is An Astronaut is an Ireland-based post-rock three-piece band with beautiful, heavily layered melodies, dynamic songs, and also known for the extensive use of visuals in live shows. For more info: www.myspace.com EPIC!! I’m pretty sure this is one of the best post-rock bands on earth, if not the best. Enough said. \m/ Big surprises to me \m/ 1 GIAA grew up listening to heavy metal, bands like Metallica, Slayer. 2 This non-metal audio clip appears on ultimate metal forum.

Journey – Lights

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Journey continues to be one of the most successful American rock bands of all time. They not only contributed to the success of MTV during its first few months of existence, but also helped to shape American pop music during the 1980s. Often credited as being one of the first bands to invent the “power ballad”, they made it acceptable for male rock singers to sing slow love songs. Journey was one of the first bands to host coast-to-coast stadium tours which attracted more than 60000 fans. The production value of the stadium tours raised the stakes for rock concerts. With giant painted scrims covering the speakers and 60-foot video screens on each side of the stage, people could see the band as far as a quarter mile away. Their state-of-the-art computerized lighting system set a new standard for rock concert production. This concert is from their March 6, 2008 Las Vegas concert at the Planet Hollywood with new lead singer, Arnel Pineda.
